Alterv Health did not begin in a lab or a boardroom. It began with two years of not sleeping.
For the better part of two years, our founder, Barnaby, lay awake at three in the morning.
He was burnt out. Work stress had taken over, his mind would not switch off at night, and in the evenings he had started reaching for a drink to take the edge off. It became a habit that quietly made everything worse. His gut was a mess, bloated and unsettled. His cortisol felt permanently switched on, that wired-but-tired state where you cannot rest and you cannot properly function either. And the weight sat on his stomach and would not shift. He felt like a stranger in his own body.
So he decided to fix it, and that is when he ran into the supplement industry.
What was broken
The deeper Barnaby looked, the more frustrated he got. Premium prices for barely-there doses. Nice packaging wrapped around a fraction of what the research actually calls for. And a category that insisted on treating sleep and gut as two separate problems, two separate purchases, two separate price tags. Add it all up and you were spending well over 130 pounds a month buying single ingredients that never quite worked together.
